NEW TO OUR MEETINGS- WHAT TO EXPECT
All who are looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior are welcome to attend a Recovery Dharma meeting. There is no preparation or advance registration necessary. Below is a format and guidelines used for most of our meetings.
Common Meeting Format
Introduction from meeting facilitator and reading of foundations of program
Group guided meditation
Group reading from Recovery Dharma Book (www.recoverydharma.org/book) or other outside reading, or a speaker shares their story of recovery. (For group reading, books are usually available to borrow at the meeting).
Optional group sharing about the reading/speaker topic, one’s experience of addiction, recovery, Buddhist principles and/or practice
During sharing, we ask that there is no cross-talk, meaning we do not comment on another person’s share or offer opinions or advice
We ask that in sharing, attendees try to use “I” statements and avoid -isms (e.g. sexism, classism, able-ism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.
If one does not wish to participate in group readings or personal sharing, one can simply say “pass”
Attendees are asked that all that is said in the meeting, and who was in the meeting is kept confidential
Meeting closes with community announcements and reading of Dedication of Merit
